Okay- quick notes... kick butt heroine, check!
Spy, super cool Bond-like gadgets.... check!
Heart-pumping action... check!
Paranormal shenanigans... check!
And as a bonus... Mutant SHARKS (but no laser beams attached to their heads...)
While I did receive an eBook from the author for free in exchange for review, my thoughts are my own. I really, really enjoyed this book. I wasn't fully sure what to expect with it, but it really surprised me. If you are after spy thriller, action/adventure, paranormal type books with even a dash of romance and sci-fi thrown it, I highly recommend trying this book.
I love the strong heroine, Jordan Law. She can kick butt, take names and disappear. Started in the book as a trained sniper for British Intelligence, it's like a female Bond but with extraordinary powers. I enjoyed the ensemble cast, many of the 'minor' characters are well 'fleshed-out' and as interesting to read as Jordan's part of the book.
I mentioned earlier about the 'dash of sci-fi'... well I think that's actually one of the things I disliked about the book. There is so much information, the level of detail with the missions, hierarchy of the spy network, weapons (it was wonderfully vivid due to the almost OCD descriptions) but the addition of the sci-fi. At one point, I actually questioned if I was still reading the same book or if I accidentally loaded a different one in the middle of it. I think it would have been just as entertaining without that portion.
Ultimately, I still enjoyed the book. After this first in the series, I would absolutely read more. And can I also say, how often does one read about mutant sharks? Not nearly enough! Laser beams would have been a nice addition... just my two cents.
